Scanning Large Sized Photos Or Documents

This item was filled under [ Personal-Tech ]

When scanning a photo, document, or paper, the size of the scanner matters. Sometimes a flatbed large format scanner will need to be used. They are made for large objects to be scanned, with the scan bed being up to over a foot in both width and height. Most flatbed large format scanners also have a high resolution when scanning, which means that the image will be very clear and high quality. They usually have a choice between USB and FireWire connection, both of which are fast connections. These scanners will sometimes come with software to help enhance the scans as well.

A flatbed large format scanner will sometimes come with software to be installed. Not only will the software contain the drivers for the scanner itself, but it also comes with a variety of image editing software. Programs such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 and Microtek’s ColoRescue will come with the scanner itself so a person can manage and enhance the scanned pictures on the computer.

The large scan bed on a flatbed large format scanner can scan images of any size that can fit. Usually it will be a size such as twelve inches by seventeen inches, but the scanners can be found in other sizes. Because the scan bed is so large, the scanner itself may take up quite a lot of space in the area with the computer. A flatbed large format scanner will also use either a USB or FireWire connection, or have both as an option. These connections are usually made to be high speed, so the data is transmitted quickly from the scanner to the computer or printer.

An advantage to using a flatbed large format scanner is that they usually have high resolution and quality scans. To get the best image quality, the scan resolution is set quite high. This helps tremendously when scanning photos to be put on the computer or when copies of them are being made. The scanned image can be further enhanced by the image editing software that will usually come with the scanner itself.

When a flatbed large format scanner is bought and installed, it will take up quite a lot of space. This is because of the large scan bed, which can easily scan paper sizes up to twelve by seventeen inches or more. They usually come with a high scanning resolution, which means that the scanned image will be high quality. Having one of these scanners is very handy, just in case a large picture needs to be scanned.

Are You Searching For an LCD TV?

This item was filled under [ Personal-Tech ]

Are you tired watching your favorite channels through your conventional CRT television? Now, you can have pleasure in viewing with large LCD TVs. They are not only bigger in size, they are also budget-friendly. That is why many people opted to upgrade their old television sets to this new large screen High Definition LCD Television.

Let us check on the 10 important things you need to consider when choosing an LCD Television:

1. Check out the brand. Make sure that you purchase an LCD TV coming from a reputable manufacturer. There are LCD TVs from not so familiar brands that are bigger and size and sometimes cheaper, but there is no guarantee on the picture quality of the TV. Better to buy the smaller TV from a respected brand which you can get high quality pictures plus more features. This gives a real value to your television.

2. Do not stick to your favorite or familiar brand. You might have a brand preference for all your electronic gadgets but it does not mean that it is the best brand which can offer you the right LCD TV. Of course, you would not actually purchase a big executive car or a sporty convertible from a manufacturer that is well- known for producing small city cars.

3. Make sure that your LCD TV offers all the features in-demand at the present time; this includes ports or connections for DVD, Freeview / Satellite and games consoles.. If you have the right number of connections, you will be able to accommodate all your other equipment at the same time. That means you don’t have to keep unplugging the DVD player if you want to play games console.

4. Another factor that you need to consider is that your LCD TV should have the functions that you will be needing in the future. It should have added connections such as: FreeSat, HD compatibility (either HD ready, or full HD) and digital TV compatibility.

5. You should also consider the reputation of the dealer where you are going to purchase your LCD TV. How long they have been selling LCD TVs? Are they able to provide you good customer service when you purchased other products from them? Are they able to give satisfactory answers to all your queries?

6. Choose the right size of LCD Television that fits your room. Although you can afford to buy the biggest LCD Television in the market, it may not be appropriate for the size of your room. Of course, you should not purchase a small one either.

7. Decide what part of your room you will be placing your new LCD TV. Is it in the corner where your old television was? Would you prefer it mounted in the wall? Or you like to be on a clever bracket that folds so you can keep the TV in the corner when you are not using it?

8. Invest on your LCD TV’s accessories. To increase the performance of your LCD television, why not spend on specialist cables, speaker stands and wall brackets. I think that you would agree that specialist cables really makes a difference. And if you want to improve the sound quality, speaker stands will help. And to get the desired angle and height for your TV for comfortable viewing experience, you will need a wall bracket. You wouldn’t drink an expensive wine out of a disposable cup, so don’t think twice when it comes to your LCD TV? Decide on spending very small amount out of your budget for accessories such as cables and stands.

9.For people who are concern on how to save space, find an LCD Television that offers all the features that you need. There are LCD TVs with built-in Hard Disk Drive recorder, DVD player, or Freeview, memory card reader (perfect for photos and videos), or, USB drives.. They could be more expensive for sure it will save a lot of space under your television and it would help make your room look spacious. .

10. Make the most out your home theater system. When watching your favorite movies or show - nature programs or action movies, you would appreciate it better if you have high definition sounds surrounding the room. Sound is necessary to make the show and films more realistic. It will make you feel like you are in the actual scene.

If you want to invest on electronic gadgets, you should think on LCD TV first. With its high quality audio and video features, it can bring your collection of movies to life. You will get the best viewing experience at the comfort of your own room.

Did Regcure Fix My PC Registry?

This item was filled under [ Personal-Tech ]

I had experienced real low speeds on my computer coupled with constant crashes. It had a very distressing affect on me. Even though I had installed a very good anti-virus program, it, for whatever reason did not seem to rectify the problems. On the contrary, the two problems seemed to have a free hand with my computer. I probed the Internet for clues, and what I found - to my chagrin - was that I was barking up the wrong tree. There was no virus on the computer. It was the Windows Registry that had gone kaput - it had missing entries and many errors. If the registry could be rectified, then the computer would function normally.

Now that the root of the issue had been identified, I probed the net and found a lot of Registry Repair Software available online; Regcure, Max Registry Cleaner and Live Help, to name a few. The Regcure program caught my attention. It offered the customary registry repair features that I guess come with most, if not every such program. It also offered features like Backup & Restore, Custom scan and Scheduled scan which I did not find in the other software. I told myself that this was good enough for me and decided to try it. Regcure offered a free trial of its Scan feature. I downloaded it and put my computer under its scrutiny. I was a little taken aback to see that the computer had about 200 odd errors.

I knew then that I had to purchase this piece of software. I ran Regcure after adding it to my system. It found some more errors this time around and it fixed the lot, in less than 10 minutes. I restarted the system and was mighty pleased to find that the computer had begun to behave normally again. It started up without wasting too much time either. It also became obvious that the system worked at a relatively faster speed than before. And oh yes, it did not crash. I played around with the other facilities that the software had to offer. I disabled quite a few programs in the startup manager using the Regcure software, and that contributed to good speed at startup. I do not wait for the system to come up like I did before. I have scheduled the scan for a weekend run. This means that Regcure will scan the computer every Saturday for any problems with the Registry. It will identify and rectify them, all on its own. I don’t have to remember to do it. There are some features/benefits like Scan Log Analysis that other software offer. I hope ParetoLogic - the company which owns Regcure - incorporates them into their product.

Top Ten Reasons Why Your PC Crashes - And How to Stop It

This item was filled under [ Personal-Tech ]

Have you ever been happily typing away or playing your favorite game, to suddenly witness the screen freeze? You sit there hoping it is just a temporary pause while something loads, but then as the seconds turn to minutes, you realize that you have just been a victim of the frozen screen of death, or a computer crash.

Anyone who utilizes windows is familiar with the ubiquitous and horrible effects of the computer crashing while you are in the middle of working, and it is no fun losing your hard earned data all in a second. Listed below are some of the most common causes of computer crashes, and a few things you may be able to change in order to avoid them.

Hardware Conflict

The most common reason for a computer crash is known as hardware conflict. Hardware conflict occurs when two pieces of hardware-a keyboard and mouse, for example-share the same interrupt request channel (IRQ). If you have a number of devices attached to your computer, the probability of a pair of them not being installed correctly increases and can cause two of them to share an IRQ, and when this happens your computer can crash.

The simplest way to avoid this is by checking the IRQ’s being utilized at a given moment, and then re-installing any device that is using a repeated IRQ.

Bad Ram

Random Access Memory or RAM problems could be causing your computer to crash. The error typically displayed when RAM is the problem is fatal exception error. A fatal error can mean there is a serious hardware problem, but sometimes it is simply a RAM problem caused by mismatched RAM chips. By mixing RAM chips of different speeds, your computer will be forced to run them all at a lower speed and can hence cause a crash.

You can avoid this problem by making sure all the RAM chips installed within your computer are the same speed, or by increasing the wait state of the RAM within the BIOS settings on your computer.

BIOS Settings

All motherboards are supplied with a given range of chipset settings by the manufacturer. Sometimes these settings can be a common culprit for computer crashes.

In order to access the chipset settings, you usually need to press F2 or delete during the first few seconds of booting up your computer. Once you are looking at the BIOS, a few things that could be causing your computer to freeze are CAS latency discrepancies where the latency does not match the RAM, which you are using. Older RAM uses a latency of 3 while newer SDRAM uses a latency of 2. Another thing, which can be adjusted within the BIOS, is the IRQ settings.

Hard Disk Drives

After a few weeks of use, the information on your hard drive begins to become fragmented. It is an excellent idea to defragment your hard drive every week or so to keep your computer running smooth and fast.

Fatal VXD Errors and OE Exceptions

Fatal VXD Errors and OE Exceptions are typically caused by video card problems. These can usually be fixed quite easily by reducing the resolution of the video display.

Viruses

Obviously, viruses can cause many problems other than simply running malicious code on your computer. The instability caused by viruses lurking in the background of your system is a common cause of crashes. The easiest way to deal with these is by scanning anything you download onto your hard disk, and by performing regular virus scanning and quarantine.

Printers

Sending a document to be printed creates a bigger file, referred to as a postscript file. Since the printer only has a small amount of memory, it is easy for it to become overloaded when you are attempting to print a large document and can cause your computer to crash. It is a good idea to turn off the printer for ten seconds and turn it back on if you suspect printer overload.

Software

Another cause of computer crashes is software that has been installed improperly. The easiest way to fix this problem when you suspect software malfunction is by completely removing the suspect software, then re-installing it.

Overheating

All central processing units or CPU’s generate a lot of heat and are fitted with factory installed cooling apparatus. When the CPU overheats, it causes a crash, which is known as a kernel error. A great investment to remedy this problem is an after market cooling system, or larger fan.

Power Supply Problems

The final problem, which could be causing your computer to crash, is the power supply. An interrupted power supply or surge can wreak havoc on your system. A good idea is investing in an uninterrupted power supply.

Registry Repairs - How to Tell Your Computer Needs Them and What to Do If it Does

This item was filled under [ Personal-Tech ]

The Windows operating systems consist of millions of files. These files are structured the same way the documents in your Word program are stored. In other words, there are directories, subdirectories and files.

This directory/file structure which runs your operating system is called “the registry.” When anything changes on your computer, for instance a new user is added, a program is deleted, or anything the operating system would have to take note of, changes, the registry also changes.

So what happens when something goes wrong with the registry? How do we know something is going wrong and what do we do about? In this article we’re going to discuss the important matter of Windows Registries and how to keep them in tip top shape.

Is Your Computer Losing Speed?

It is the first sign a registry may be corrupted when the computer starts to slow down. The type of slow down that occurs when a registry is becoming corrupted is gradual. The computer seems to slow down at startup and in regular use. It seems to take longer to load web pages.

There are other things that could cause your computer to lose speed. However, registry corruption has to be suspected when your computer seems to be losing speed steadily.

Computer Errors?

Computer errors, such as “file not found,” “DLL,” or “Runtime errors” are commonly seen on a computer whose registry is in need of repair. There are other kinds of errors which may be experienced from time to time on a computer with registry problems, but these are the most common registry type errors.

If you’re starting to notice you have computer errors popping up now and again and this hasn’t been a problem in the past, it is likely there is corruption developing in the registry.

Have You had Spyware or Malware Removed?

Assuming you have a good spyware cleaner installed on your computer, and also assuming you keep it up to date and use it regularly, it is likely you have removed some spyware and/or malware somewhere along the line. Of course, it is an excellent idea to keep your computer free of spyware and malware.

Still, it should be noted spyware and malware are programs and when they are deleted they leave entries in the registry. These entries corrupt the operating system which now has to work around these entries. So, it becomes necessary after spyware has been removed, to clean the registry.

Updated Drivers or Added New Software?

Anytime a driver is updated or software is added to or removed from the computer, entries in the registry are changed. When registry entries change, corruption is left and needs to be dealt with or the computer will tend to slow down and get the type of errors we mentioned previously.

A Registry Cleaner is a Must

With today’s operating systems, Windows Vista and Windows XP, it has become necessary to have a good registry cleaner installed on the computer. With the older smaller operating systems, registry corruption wasn’t too much of a factor. This is because the registry files weren’t as numerous and working around them wasn’t the monumental task it is today.

Installing a good registry cleaner and using it periodically will keep your registry in good working order. Corruption will be removed and all unnecessary and unwanted entries will be deleted from the registry. A registry cleaner is therefore, a very important tool for keeping our computers running smoothly.

The author, Ed Lathrop is a comp TIA A+/Network+ certified computer technician familiar with the operation, repair and upkeep of today’s PC’s. His site, Registry Cleaner Review, rates the latest registry programs and tells which registry cleaners work and which ones might actually be dangerous to your computer. Also, Windows Registry Cleaner gives an outline as to why a corrupt registry will cause slow and poor computer performance with today’s computers while it was relatively unimportant in earlier models.

Registry Errors on Your Computer?

This item was filled under [ Personal-Tech ]

Regcure, created by ParetoLogic is a widely used registry cleaner program in the market. You will find loads of registry cleaner software on the internet but as you test them it becomes obvious that not every piece of software does what it claims to do. It is a matter of your computer, and the registry is such a precious portion of it. You would not want to have your computer crash ever so often. You would not want to spend time getting the computer back on its feet; you might as well spend that time using the computer. Here is a review of Regcure. To test it, we used it to clean the registry on an IBM T42 Thinkpad. The review is broadly classified as follows:

  • Regcure Software Interface
  • Regcure Scan
  • Regcure Results
  • Regcure Features

Regcure Software Interface: We logged on to ParetoLogic’s website and downloaded Regcure. The only way to get this software is by downloading it from the website. The download is fast as the file is not too big. Once the software was installed on the Thinkpad we were all set to go. The software creators have made the interface appear pleasant. ‘Smooth’ is the word that first flashed in my mind. It has big buttons, and the layout with its easy-to-read information makes it very convenient, especially for users who are relatively new to computers, to understand how to use the software and to navigate. Regcure Scan: As the name suggests, the Scan feature scans your computer for errors, which are then cleaned up. When we ran the scan, a total of 634 errors were found. Each of those errors was successfully cleaned. We next ran the “Manage Startup” utility available on the software. Oftentimes, when software are installed, they offer the option of launching themselves while the computer boots up. While this feature of the operating system can be an advantage, it can also eat into a computer’s resources. What the “Manage Startup” utility does is manage the startup process of the computer. You can disable the automatic launch of software that you don’t consider important. Regcure Results: Here are the results of the performance of the Thinkpad after Regcure was run on it. The startup time reduced from about 4minutes to about 2 minutes. That is a huge difference. The computer has not slowed down or stopped or crashed ever since. The error messages that would pop up every now and then have now completely vanished. Regcure Features: Here you would find the features that you can use with Regcure.

  • Automatic Repair
  • Automatic Scheduling Tool
  • Back-up and Restore features
  • Custom Scans
  • Ignore List
  • Startup Programs Manager

The Custom Scans on Regcure gives the more advanced users flexibility in that they can be selective while scanning their computer. You could scan for just the program shortcuts or the uninstall entries, for example. Sometimes, it is quite possible that you have removed a program by error and you want to have that in place as before. This can be quite a task if you have to search for the removed item. Fortunately, the Backup and Restore feature resolves your problem. It allows you to rollback the changes that you made last and revert to the earlier setup on your computer. The Scan feature of Regcure is available as a free download. You can test the program before you decide to purchase it. If you encounter 300 or more errors as a result of the free scan, it is advisable that you purchase the full version. The cost of the product will be easy on your wallet, especially when you consider the benefits that it can give your computer and the peace of mind that you would experience with a system that does not slow down and/or crash-up often. Of the many Registry Cleaning Software that we have tested, Regcure ranks among the top.

Refurbished Laptops - Insider Guide to Cheap Quality Laptops

This item was filled under [ Mobile Computing ]

Don’t be confused into thinking that refurbished laptops are second-hand machines that have been used for a couple of years and are no longer wanted by their owner. Instead, they are a laptop which has been sent back to the manufacturer because the consumer changed their mind about the purchase and returned it within 90 days. Or the laptop was returned because there was a minor fault such as a dented exterior, scratched screen or missing key. The manufacturer simply inspects the machine, tests for quality and repackages and sells it at a much cheaper price, making a refurbished laptop one of the best selling techno toys available to consumers.

Advantages of Buying a Refurbished Laptop

The best thing about a refurbished laptop is the price, affording a branded, quality computer that is one of the latest models at a cut retail price with guaranteed high standards of performance. Very often manufacturers add extra customizations meaning you get a machine with extra add-ons which were not available on the original model.

Most sellers offer a warranty, often up to a year, which can be extended up to three years for an extra fee. So consumers can get their hands on the latest, most fashionable laptop whilst being guaranteed standards of performance and reliability. Sounds too good to be true? Well there are a number of considerations to bear in mind when buying a refurbished laptop.

Buying tips:

  • What is the reputation of the company selling the refurbished laptop? Very often you can get a refurbished model direct from one of the top manufacturers, such as Dell, HP or Sony. Or if you are buying from an online seller or a store, check their reliability. You need to make sure you are getting a genuine refurbished model rather than a second-hand one. Things to look out for when assessing the company are feedback from other customers, payment method and listen to your instincts - if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is!
  • Features of the laptop: one of the major drawbacks of a refurbished laptop is that you cannot customize it. Therefore it’s important to make sure you don’t simply buy on price and make sure the machine suits your needs.
  • Do your research: check out the price of a new model direct from the manufacturer - are the savings significant enough to buy a refurbished model? Are you saving a few dollars to compromise on the quality of the warranty offered?
  • Read the warranty: check that the warranty is either a manufacturer’s warranty or if it is from the seller what it actually covers. Try calling their customer support number to check how responsive they are.
  • Returns: you typically have less time to return a refurbished model than a new one - usually around 15 days.

Used Cheap Laptops

This item was filled under [ Mobile Computing ]

When you start a new business and don’t have too much money for fast improvements when it comes to laptop computers for employees, one good solution is to look for used cheap laptops. The problem with these is the fact that you never know how good they are, if you don’t know the provider very well. It’s not a good idea to buy from the black market, so you’d start to look for official dealers. There are many online stores that sell http://www.laptopsarena.com/used-cheap-laptops/ used cheap laptops, but if you don’t have enough experience in this market sector, having no idea about right prices and product evaluation, you could get laptops with a high degree of damage.

Yes, I know, you can go for websites providing customer reviews but I can tell you from the others’ experience that you can be fooled easily this way too. They all allow you to browse through price ranges, hardware components section or brands to choose from, but at the laptop’s arrival you might get disappointed… or be lucky. Anyhow, as long as there’s always a risk to lose your money on nothing, might be better to relax and think twice before ordering.

I could advise you to forget about used cheap laptops that don’t even look attractive, and buy new models from highly rated stores, or try something different, which many don’t know too much about these days - laptop trade - but for this you need to already own such systems. Yes, that’s right, you could trade in your old laptops for new ones. This method provides you with a small but significant percentage of the new model’s price in exchange for your old system, which can be further used for separate functional hardware components that are still functional, just to keep it as green as possible. Here too you need to find a company that everyone trusts 100%, and one of these, which I personally trust and would use too, is Hewlett Packard.

The interface is easy to use and here we have to select the type of product you want to trade, which in our case is Notebooks, then comes the brand you have, let’s say Sony, the model name, the condition that can be Poor, Good or Excellent, quantity, and the postal code. After hitting Add to Quote you are redirected to a new page where you need to accept the current configuration displayed or modify it to match with what you prepared for trading in.

My configuration example is: 256 MB RAM memory, 60 GB HDD storage, Pentium M 1.5 GHZ processor, and the Windows XP Professional operating system. It was a VGN-A130B38. For 5 units I get $129 each, and a total value of $ 645, which I can use to buy a brand new laptop or several, by adding some extra money.
