Adobe has really pulled out all the stops to come up with a really good photo workflow management tool that is unsurpassed in the market at the moment. I find that managing digital photos and the digital photography ‘workflow’ (i.e. image capture, editing, sharing) is a tedious task.

There are not many software tools out there to help manage your digital photos yet provide in-depth editing capabilities.

Adobe Photoshop Elements provides some capabilities, but it is essentially a ‘lightweight’ program that is more suitable for novices. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 compares well with ACDSee, which is a more ‘prosumer’ image editing and digital photo workflow program.

1. Introduction
What is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom? Well, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is ‘a tool to simplify photography from shoot to finish’. At least that is what the sales literature says. On the whole, the software does a good job in fulfilling that promise. With modules like Library, Develop, Slideshow, Web, and Print, you can do basically anything you want to a digital photo in the program. The Library and Develop modules are the meat of the program, while the rest are more secondary features.

2. The Library Module
The Library Module in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 is the part of the program where all images are displayed and managed. If you want a bird’s eye view of all the digital photos in your system, this is where you lay it all out.

This is a good feature, but I do find it slightly less intuitive than Apple’s iPhoto - which is first-class in its ability to navigate thousands of photos at once. The Library Module allows you to use multiple monitors to display photos if you so wish.

3. The Develop Module
If you’re interested in non-destructive editing of JPEG, TIFF, PSD, DNG (and more than 200 camera RAW formats), then Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is the tool for you.

One thing good about Adobe’s products is their intensive integration with Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is no exception - you can easily search and find images, then edit them with full integration to the larger Adobe Photoshop editing program. Lightroom lets you very easily edit images with some built-in functions of its own. But for more heavy duty image editing and layering effects, you should still use Adobe Photoshop.

4. The Slideshow Module
What good is a digital image workflow program if it does not allow you to create photo slideshows to share with others? Well, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 allows you to easily do that. You’ll be amazed by the simple point-and-click way in which you can set up a bunch of digital photos to be incorporated into a slideshow. You can then burn those slideshows onto CD or DVD if you wish.

However, I do find that the slideshow capabilities not as intuitive and simple as Ulead CD & DVD PictureShow (which is THE tool I use on a day-to-day basis to cut out quick DVD copies of my photos for my friends and family).

5. The Web Module
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom also allows you to send your digital photos off to the web to show a client (or anyone else) pictures online. This is a good way to share your photos if you’ve got an broadband access to the Internet. Of course, nothing beats setting up your own domain and setting up a digital photo website or getting an account with a professional photo sharing community like Smugmug.

6. The Print Module
Ok, the final module we will look at in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is the Print Module. The Print Module allows you to print out your photos in a variety of layouts. In Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0, print quality and versatility are improved over version 1.0. You can also print photos to JPEG format and there is a print sharpening system to create better looking prints. Of course, make sure you get a good photo printer for printing those pictures.

Conclusion
Well, and that’s it! I hope this article has given you some good insight into Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 and how it helps you as a digital photographer. Until next time, good luck to you and have a good time taking pictures!

There are thousands of human languages, many of which can be learnt by computer. In fact one company, The Transparent Language, offers computer-learning software for over one hundred languages ranging from Afrikaans (a language spoken by whites in South Africa) to Zulu (a language spoken by blacks in South Africa). They offer languages whose names start with 25 letters of the alphabet, O is the only exception. This article examines software associated with the Yiddish language but many issues and features can be carried over to numerous other languages.

Yiddish was once spoken by approximately 11 million people mostly in Europe, Israel, North America, and South America. Present estimates are about 3 million speakers, many of whom are quite elderly. Yiddish developed from German dialects. Since the 13th century, written Yiddish has used a variation of the Hebrew alphabet containing 22 letters. Yiddish is written from right to left. Yiddish nouns are masculine, feminine, or neuter. Yiddish pronouns, articles, and adjectives change form for different cases. Yiddish verbs are conjugated to show person and tense. Furthermore pronunciation can vary sharply from one dialect to another. All these factors make it relatively difficult to learn this language.

Yiddish vocabulary has come from many sources, including German, Hebrew, various Slavic languages and, recently, English. Many Yiddish words have entered the English vocabulary. As with many other languages, vocabulary exchange is a two-way street.

One major aspect of learning a language is pronunciation. Computer software can be a great help in mastering this difficult task. Many software programs correct your pronunciation. Unlike human teachers, the program will never tire of hearing your mistakes. You can access these programs at your convenience and not spend any time in traveling to the teacher’s home. Remember, skilled Yiddish speakers and consequently teachers tend to be elderly. Do you feel like reviewing your lessons a half hour before bedtime? This is no problem for the computer but isn’t an option for your teacher who lives across town or even next door.

Many software packages come with a variety of games, quizzes, and other learning materials. Sophisticated programs track your progress, analyze your errors, and make individualized suggestions. Additional features include audio tapes for practicing on the way to work, phrase books, and dictionaries.

Electronic translation is also available but at this point I personally question the quality of translating any language by computer. Learning Yiddish, or for that matter, any other language is hard. But the computer can improve the learning process.

He teaches Linux and Windows operating systems plus other computer courses at an Ontario French-language community college. Visit his new website http://www.mysql4windows.com which teaches you how to download and run MySQL on Windows computers, even if they are “obsolete.” For a break from computers check out his global wine website at http://www.theworldwidewine.com with his new weekly column reviewing $10 wines.

Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP is good platform for integration with your current and legacy applications: ecommerce, CRM, EDI, Microsoft Access and even non-Microsoft platforms, such as Oracle, Lotus Notes Domino, MySQL/PHP, DB2. In this small publication we would like to review Dynamics GP or Great Plains (as it was previously known) integrating tools and scenarios:

1. Dynamics GP Integration Manager text integrations. This module is user friendly and you can easy build CSV or Tab delimited text files integrations. IM has predefined destinations to such popular GP objects as Customer, Vendor, Employee, GL Account, plus Transactions: Sales Order Processing (Quote, Invoice, Sales Order), Purchase Order Processing (Purchase Order, Receiving Transaction). If you are Payroll outsourcing company - you can easily integrate your customers’ employee time cards to give you the idea about typical industry case

2. Integration Manager Advanced cases. Here you have more challenging scenarios, when you have to pull data from external database. In IM you likely will need to deploy Advanced ODBC queries, based on Microsoft SQL Server Views (which might be heterogeneous: SQL Linked Server to Oracle DB, for example). Plus advanced ODBC query should be considered when you have Text file to be integrated, which has non-structured format (you have to weed out comment lines, headers, footers and other attribute of human report). Also, consider the case, when you have to produce document header and lines from single text file - Advanced ODBC query with union construction should be considered

3. eConnect. This SDK has various exposures, however the core of this connector is set of encrypted stored procedures. Great Plains 10.0 installation automatically installs eConnect stored procs, for earlier versions, such as 9.0 you can install eConnect Runtime manually. We do not recommend eConnect to Great Plains customers, who are on version, earlier than 9.0. So, if you are on GP 8.0 or 7.5 - you can consider deploying eConnect, but just the fact of SDK maturity should incline you to the idea to upgrade your Great Plains installation to 10.0 or 9.0. eConnect is open for C# or VB.Net Microsoft Visual Studio programmer, who is also familiar with XML and SQL Stored Procedures concept. Just one warning - eConnect doesn’t post GP batches, consider Great Plains Auto Posting Server to fill this gap

4. Dexterity. Great Plains Dexterity is the EDI and fundament of GP architecture. Dex is almighty, when you are thinking about Great Plains customization and integration. However Dex requires professional Great Plains Dexterity programmer to be involved, and it might be not feasible to train your IT internal programmers to begin software development in Dexterity. Dexterity is good fit to program integration, when eConnect doesn’t provide functionality - good example is GP invoicing module

5. SQL Stored Procedures. As Great Plains, since version 8.0 is available exclusively on MS SQL Server DB platform, it is natural temptation to try program integration in SQL stored procedures. The drawback of this method is long learning curve in understanding the nature of programmed transactions, the disadvantage of “competing” with eConnect stored procedures, where all the work is already done

Adware and spyware are a major concern for anyone on the internet. If your computer is plagued with popup ads, if the homepage on your web browser changes on it’s own, if your computer sometimes brings up another browser page on it’s own, then you definitely have adware on your computer. If you have adware on your computer then you probably have spyware also. The sites you browse as well as the searches you do can be gathered by spyware and sent to an advertisers site on the internet for storage and analysis. The advertiser can then send you targeted ads which will pop up on your computer screen.

Spyware, malware can also be used to steal information like your credit card numbers, social security number, bank account numbers, and the like. The way that adware and spyware finds it’s way onto your computer is if you buy things on the internet, pay your bills online, use online auction sites, download music, etc. If this describes your online activities then you really need software that can detect and remove spyware and adware. Check out Doctor Adware for a very good removal package. Doctor Adware can perform the following operations.

- Detects and eliminates spyware.

- Protects against web identity theft.

- Prevents hijacking of your personal files.

- Stops spies from monitoring your keystrokes.

- Blocks malicious cookies, pop ups, and ads.

- Scans your PCs registry for hidden and dormant spyware, adware, trojans, worms etc.

There is also a newer version of Doctor Adware in the form of Doctor Adware Pro. Both are currently available. This package has all the features of Doctor Adware plus the ability to block and remove viruses, worms, trojans, and keyloggers. There is also an enhanced interface which makes it easier to schedule scans, and make changes until the program is just the way you want it.

Another good adware romoval software package is a program called Adware Tools. Designed to be easy to use and efficient, it’s a good choice if your looking for something that is also unobtrusive. Adware Tools has the following abilities.

- Protects against all spyware and adware.

- Blocks spyware before it begins to operate.

- Protects against online credit card theft.

- Protects your passwords and sensitive information.

- Scans your system and removes spyware and adware.

The only negative thing I can say about Adware Tools is that it lacks polish. However it’s efficiency and ease of use makes up for that. If you don’t have a good adware remover and your online activities involve what I have described in this article, then you really should consider getting a software package to protect yourself from adware and spyware. Check out my blog for more information and for a link to my adware removal software review site.

When you type an email address for a message and hit send, how does the email know where to go?

Your email client (email software) wraps up your email along with certain information about the message, and sends the email to your SMTP Server (The SMTP server handles outgoing email. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) Which SMTP server you use is configured in your email software. Most people use the SMTP server provided by their Internet Service Provider (ISP). Or if you use web based email such as Hotmail or Yahoo mail, you have no control over the SMTP server — it is built in.

Your SMTP server accepts the email, looks up the IP address of the destination server, breaks the message up into packets, and sends the packets to the destination through a series of “hops” (usually a sequence of very high-powered routers). The path that your email takes through the internet is determined by the various routers. The routers used for internet routing have been compared with supercomputers. They look at various possible paths to the destination, and decide the best route to take. The individual packets may all use the same route, or some my go through one path, then the router may decide that there is too much traffic along that path, and send the rest of the packets through another path, or a variety of other paths.

Once all of the packets have been received, the destination server (usually a “POP” server) hooks the packets back together and places the email in a special file and waits for the recipient to request their email.

The email servers have an actual conversation. As you can see, below, they are even very polite. This is an actual conversation with the identifying information obfuscated. The sending server connects to the destination server. It says hello. The destination server replies with ELHO. They are even on a first name basis. The sending server says, “I have a message for one of your people, and it is this big.”

The destination server looks up the email address, and looks to see if it wants to, and is able to, receive email for the recipient. It then tells the sending server. “Ok, send it on”
The sending server then says, Ok, I am sending the message. You will know when it is done when you see two carriage return line feeds (CRLF) back to back. The receiving server then acknowledges receipt of the message and the conversation ends.

Fargo equipment falls into two basic categories - direct to card (DTC) and high definition printing (HDP). All of the machines in their current line can print in full color or monochrome and are compatible with Windows 2000/XP. The Asure ID program is the preferred software for ID formatting but other options are available for some units. If you have any questions about compatibility with other programs, be sure to check with your sales rep before you buy.

Direct to Card Printers:

The Persona C30 boasts the lowest MSRP of all Fargo’s products but it doesn’t sacrifice quality to offer you a great price. This tiny 8 pound desktop model brings vivid card printing to small businesses and anyone who is working on a tight budget. The unit is designed to be simple for employees to use and each snap-in replacement ribbon comes with a card cleaning roller already incorporated for easy maintenance. You can choose the dual sided version of this model for applications that require lots of text, or the M30 if your card designs require only one color per job. The Persona C30 and DTC400 also have the ability to print on 10 mil and rewritable cards - something other Fargo models aren’t equipped to do.

The DTC400 and DTC550 are similar in many of their capabilities, but each has its own advantages. The DTC550 is intended for higher volume use, so you will definitely want to invest a little extra and go with this larger model if you will be printing cards frequently or in bulk. The 550 can also have a lamination unit and card hopper lock added to enhance your card security. The advantage of the 400 model lies in the number of options that can be added in the field after purchase. If you wish to buy a printer now and add dual sided capabilities, mag stripe, or e-card encoding, you can do so at any time with the help of a technician when you pick this model. With the 550 series you will need to select your encoding options at the time you place your order. Both units have excellent warranties - just be sure to add a cleaning kit to your shopping cart to keep your machine in top condition.

High Definition Printers:

All of Fargo’s HDP models use thermal retransfer printing to deliver a final product with crisp and clear images printed on just about any 30 mil or 50 mil card. This includes those manufactured from non-standard materials and featuring uneven surfaces (such as proximity cards with embedded antenna). In this type of print process the dye and resin are deposited on the underside of a strip of plastic film and then bonded to the card surface for an immaculate finish. Since Fargo supplies each HDP unit with a lifetime printhead warranty, your money is well spent on these machines.

The HDP5000 is a great buy for any corporation that places a high value on the image it presents to clients. This unit offers “over the edge” printing for a professional format that eliminates unsightly white borders. This machine is ideal for mid-sized marketing needs as well as access control. With its smart screen LCD control panel and simple operation, training is fast and efficient. Add lamination, dual sided printing, and encoding to ensure this equipment meets all your current and future needs.

The HDP600 is Fargo’s highest quality printer and can be equipped with all the bells and whistles available across the industry. This FIPS compliant machine can incorporate the latest options including an external print server, e-card docking station, contact and contactless capabilities, proximity reader, and a 3 track mag stripe encoder. With a 200 card input hopper provided standard, this workhorse is the ideal printer for high volume jobs. Select the modules that allow you to print both sides of a card, encode, and laminate it in a single pass for ease of use.

Finally, the HDP600-CR100 occupies the top of the range price-wise and is specifically designed to create oversized photo ID cards. This specialty application is ideal for environments where crowd control and instant identification are essential. Lamination and holographic topcoats can provide even more security for these forgery resistant badges. Look for Fargo to add encoding options for this model soon.

In our company we always face some challenges when a new computer is up in market. Every worker is talking about new laptops and their special features and at the end of the day every one feels like getting one of such of a laptop. But Young generation workers get it hard to decide whether they should buy an expensive notebook computer with their little salaries that’s when our boss came up with the decision of notebook computer leasing.

In this modern world everything can be leased out .Some people think that leasing and renting is left to cars and real estate and forget that they can also go leasing and renting of laptop computers. The best thing with notebook computer leasing is that you get a modern notebook that suites you. This could be hard when you decide to buy one because new notebooks with modern programs are always expensive.

It doesn’t make any sense for you to buy a notebook every three months but with computer leasing you can get a new notebook after every 3 months. Many companies face a shortage of money when it comes to purchasing of computers to every individual in a company. Computers loose value quickly and for that matter one should consider leasing than buying. Like any machinery computers are vulnerable to depreciation which means that one will have to buy a notebook every year and that means that the company will be loosing a lot of money in buying a computer for every individual in the company. But considering buying computer to leasing, it can be cheaper to a company because after the elapse of the agreed period the computer will be returned back and may be given a new one or refresh the contract if the computers are still functioning to its fullest.

In this computing world it is on record that every other day new programs are manufactured and some computers that were purchased some years ago don’t have those programs. How will you manage to get a computer with new programs at higher price? Just go for a computer leasing and you will be relieved because this may not need the involvement of looking for a loan from the bank like the case of computer buying.

If you are in a big company, you need to engage your accountant to determine whether the company should go for laptop computer buying or renting option. Low cost computers are found everywhere as long as one wants computers for secretarial work in their offices.

Some sections of the company may need high end computers which may require the company to lease from out and if the company sees it right, it may go ahead and purchase them. So it is up to the company to sort things out.

Depending on the size of the company, the computers shouldn’t be a burden. But suppose it is a small company that can manage its workers closely, then the decision of buying may occur. On the other hand when it is the big company with many branches in different places, the decision of rent to buy may be used .So depending on individual decisions, one could think of renting a computer or buying.

WHERE TO GET THEM? Almost all bigger computer companies like Dell, Sony, Toshiba and many others deal in notebook computer leasing .It is up to your company to contact any computer suppliers near you to see how the deal can be dealt with. For individuals, there are very many companies on the net that deal on notebook computer selling and renting. A company like Tigerdirect can give good deals on Laptop renting and leasing.
